2024 Conference Training Sessions

CTAV IS EXCITED TO BE BACK WITH ANOTHER SET OF EXCELLENT TRAININGS AT THIS YEAR'S CONFERENCE!

PLEASE SEE THE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS BELOW AND BEGIN PLANNING YOUR AGENDA NOW

American’s with Disabilities Act – Transit Operations, ADA Paratransit Basics, & Do I Have to Do That?
Presented by: Carol Wright Kenderdine with Carol Wright Consulting

In the first part you will learn basic information about implementing ADA requirements for public transit operations. Topics include boarding and securing passengers who use mobility devices, service animals, reasonable modifications, effective communication with persons with specific disabilities, stop announcements, priority seating, personal care attendants (PCAs) and companions, visitor policies, and much more.

Stick around for the second session to learn about FTA's final ruling on reasonable modifications to policy and practice. “Do I have to do that?” is one of the most common questions we hear when people ask for guidance. This workshop will help you sort out what you have to do, and what you don’t. We will discuss policies and processes for implementation and give examples designed to demonstrate how to make case-by-case decisions about granting reasonable modifications to passengers with disabilities.

Being a Leader: Demonstrating Accountability
Presented by: Terrie Glass with Leadership Solutions

Leaders own their work and their results – good and bad. They understand how to learn from their mistakes and how to gracefully take credit for their successes. When others are involved and can be rightfully “blamed”, leaders avoid the blame game (no matter how tempting) and practice joint accountability. In this workshop we will talk together about the challenges of being accountable and tips for overcoming those challenges.

Being an Effective Leader
Presented by: Carol Wright Kenderdine with Carol Wright Consulting

In our day-to-day work life, we often become so bogged down with completing the necessary tasks and details that we do not take the time to employ more leadership strategies into our work styles. In public transit, your life is hectic, your time is valuable, you are often overloaded, and you may sometimes feel like you are barely “hanging on”. Leadership is often the missing ingredient to greater productivity – not more work! While often we look to our managers as the “leader”, everyone has the ability to lead others. This workshop demonstrates the essentials for effective leadership, identifies traits every leader should develop, and underscores the impact leadership skills can have on your life and lives of those you lead.

Dealing with Difficult People
P
resented by: Carol Wright Kenderdine with Carol Wright Consulting

Have you ever dealt with difficult customers? The customer is always right? Maybe not! And let’s not forget about employees. We all have employees who whether right or wrong drive us to distraction with their whining, demands on our time, or inability to get along with their co-workers. While every situation is different, there are techniques that we can adopt that help us deal with customers and employees who are whiners, aggressive, exploders, know-it-alls, and those that are just plane cranky. In this course we will learn to identify the difficult behaviors, learn how to deal with difficult people, identify causes of conflict, communicate effectively to avoid conflict, and how to resolve and manage conflict for positive outcomes.

Managing Conflict
